Position Summary

Academic Explorers is accepting applications for caring, dependable, and enthusiastic Assistant Teachers to join our growing team. As an Assistant Teacher, you will:

  • Support the Lead Teacher in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment.

  • Build positive relationships with children through play, conversation, and daily interactions.

  • Assist with implementing developmentally appropriate activities and learning experiences.

  • Help supervise children during indoor and outdoor play, meals, rest time, transitions, and classroom routines.

  • Encourage children's social, emotional, language, cognitive, and physical development.

  • Assist with preparing classroom materials, learning centers, and activities.

  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom that meets all New York State OCFS health and safety regulations.

  • Observe children's development and communicate important information to the Lead Teacher.

  • Build positive relationships with families through friendly, professional communication.

  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers and administrators to provide exceptional care and education.

Qualifications​​​

  • Meet all New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) requirements for employment.

  • Have experience working with children in a child care center, school, camp, or similar setting, or demonstrate a strong interest in early childhood education.

  • Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Be able to lift up to 40 pounds and actively participate in classroom activities.

  • Be willing to obtain CPR/First Aid certification and complete all required training if not already certified.

 

Preferred:

  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Child Development Associate (CDA) in progress, college coursework, or a degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.

  • Experience in a licensed child care center or preschool.

  • Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.

  • Experience with The Creative Curriculum® or similar early childhood curriculum.

  • Bilingual communication skills (English/Spanish).

Physical Requirements​

This position requires the ability to:

  • Lift and carry children and classroom materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds.

  • Frequently sit on the floor, kneel, squat, bend, reach, and actively engage with young children throughout the day.

  • Respond quickly to children's needs to ensure their health and safety.

  • Perform feeding, diapering/toileting assistance and other routine caregiving responsibilities as needed.

  • Participating in indoor and outdoor activities daily.

 

Pay rate: $17.50 - $19.50 per hour
